NSRD Public Magazine Overview

About the Magazine: The NSRD Public Magazine showcases impactful stories, innovations, and insights on rural development across Sri Lanka. We welcome contributions from all nine provinces, ensuring equal representation and quality content delivery.

All 9 provinces in Sri Lanka will be given an equal chance to publish articles with quality dissemination of impactful content delivery.

Fair Selection

The Board of Directors will review all submitted articles. Publication is subject to their approval based on quality and relevance.

General Scope

Area and Focus

Articles must focus on:

  • Rural development and livelihoods
  • Sustainability and agriculture
  • Environment and education
  • Community empowerment and health
  • MSMEs and Entrepreneurship
  • Human Resource development
  • Community Leadership
  • Local innovations in Sri Lanka

General Public Readership

Submissions should maintain an inclusive, factual, and neutral tone, suitable for a broad public readership across all demographics and educational backgrounds.

Article Requirements

Article Length

  • Feature Articles: 1,200 – 2,000 words
  • Short Articles/Updates: 500 – 800 words

Language Options

Primary Language: English

Translation Available: Provision for translation into Sinhala and Tamil languages.

Spacing & Alignment

  • Line Spacing: 1.5
  • Alignment: Justified
  • Headings: Use consistent levels (H1, H2, H3)

Writing Style

Clear, accessible writing using widely adopted Public Newspaper Style (Lakehouse) with structured sub-headings, fact boxes, case studies, infographics, and side quotes.

Formatting Guidelines

File Requirements

  • Required Formats: MS Word (.docx) AND PDF
  • Both formats must be submitted
  • Ensure compatibility and readability

Font Specifications

  • English Body Text: Times New Roman, 12pt
  • Headings: Arial or Calibri
  • Sinhala: Iskoola Pota (e.g., "ග්‍රාම සංවර්ධනය")
  • Tamil: Bamini (e.g., "கிராம அபிவிருத்தி")

Images & Visuals

Format & Resolution

  • Format: JPEG or PNG
  • Resolution: Minimum 300 DPI
  • Size: At least 1200 pixels on shorter side

Photo Credits

Each photo must include:

  • Photographer's name
  • Location
  • Short caption (max. 30 words)

Image Rights

Important: Authors are responsible for securing image rights and permissions before submission.

Referencing Standards

Required Information

Writer/Author/Reporter must mention:

  • Relevant Names
  • Places
  • Dates and Times
  • Years
  • Due credits where necessary

Citation Style

  • If required: Follow APA citation style
  • Include hyperlinks for digital version
  • Reference Internet, HTTP, WWW sources
  • Cite social media platforms appropriately
  • Must adhere to intellectual property rights

Ethical & Editorial Policy

Critical Guidelines

  • Articles must avoid political bias
  • No defamatory remarks or content
  • Must be culturally sensitive to all communities
  • All submissions will be fact-checked and copy-edited

Board of Directors Authority

The Board of Directors reserves the right to:

  • Accept articles for publication
  • Reject submissions that don't meet standards
  • Request revisions to improve quality

Before You Submit

  • ✓ Article is within word limit (500-2000 words)
  • ✓ Submitted in both MS Word (.docx) and PDF formats
  • ✓ Proper fonts used (Times New Roman 12pt for English)
  • ✓ 1.5 line spacing with justified alignment
  • ✓ Images are high quality (300 DPI minimum)
  • ✓ All images include photographer credits and captions
  • ✓ Image rights and permissions secured
  • ✓ References and citations properly formatted
  • ✓ Content is factual, neutral, and culturally sensitive
